Social security system in Germany

The social security system in Germany is financed by the process of redistribution and is paid directly by employees and employers. These payments are allocated towards pensioners, sick people, people with disabilities and unemployed people.

Employees are paid a net salary in which all of the aforementioned contributions are already deduced. The employer is therefore required to pay their share and transfer the total to the corresponding tax office. This by nature requires every employee to be registered with the local tax office and therefore have an individual tax number.

The following graph published by the Germany Trade and Invest organization (GTAI) shows the breakdown of each tax paid, as well as the percentage of employees’ gross wage that must be allocated by the employee versus what must be allocated by the employer.

El sistema de seguridad social en Alemania se financia mediante la redistribución de los pagos y es fundado directamente por empleados y empleadores. Estos pagos son para personas jubiladas, enfermas, con discapacidades o desempleadas.
